Micronesia is made up of four
archipelagos: the Federated States of Micronesia, Northern
Mariana, the Republic of the Marshall Islands and the
Republic of Palau. They are comprised of thousands of
tiny islands strewn across thousands of kilometres of
the North Pacific.
Due to the impact of WWII on the area, there are some
fantastic dive sites, the most notable in Chuuk, where
an entire Japanese fleet lays on the lagoon floor providing
divers with a unique glimpse of the battle that raged
over 60 years ago.
Budding archaeologists will be fascinated with the
13th Century ruins of Nan Madol at Pohnpei, a
collection of temples and pools of the Saudeleur
dynasty.
