| Tahiti is the biggest of the
French Polynesian islands and has some stunning mountain
ranges and tropical scenery and fresh dollop of joie de
vivre. Unfortunately the beaches aren’t as nice
as you’d imagine and Tahiti suffers from increasingly
bad pollution.
The good news is that the outlying islands offer a
more relaxed lifestyle with glorious coastal scenery
and razor ridge mountains (Moorea), great beaches and
archaeological sites (Huahine) and exceptional sailing
and scuba diving (Raiatea & Tahaa). These islands
offer much more then the over-hyped and sadly now over-commercialised
Bora Bora.
To go truly off the beaten track, the Marquesas in
the north and Austral Islands in the south have
great coastlines and have few tourists.
