Known for its cannibalistic
past, Fiji is a mish-mash of Melanesians, Indians, Polynesians
and Europeans providing for a rich culture and tradition.
In 1874, the British started importing Indian labour to
Fiji for work on the plantations, which has lead to racial
tension with the indigenous population that is still unresolved
today.
Despite this, travellers will be warmly greeted by
the vibrant and outgoing locals and will find Fiji and
inexpensive and rewarding destination.
With over 100 inhabited islands easily reached by plane
or boat, Fiji is a great place for scuba diving,
snorkelling, kayaking and trekking round the rainforest
and archaeological sites.
