The stereotypical images of
pocket knives, chocolates, yodelling and of course cuckoo
clocks are not unfounded, but Switzerland has a great
deal to offer the traveller. German, French and Italian
influences, along with stunning Alpine landscapes combine
to form an interesting fusion of modernity and medieval
preservation.
Switzerland’s banking system, whose secrecy is
under pressure to reform, has elevated the country to
become one of the richest in the world. Unfortunately
for the traveller, this also means that it is the most
expensive place to visit in Europe.
With over 60% of the country being mountainous, it
is no surprise that travellers take in the Alpine
scenery through activity. Skiing, snowboarding,
hiking, cycling and skating are all on offer for
the adventurous.
