Scotland

The oft-invaded neighbour of England, Scotland has a rich history and some gorgeous rugged scenery to keep the weary traveller entertained.   It's people are fiercely patriotic, soldiering on with kilts and bagpipes when most would have tried something else.

The further north you go, the more remote and harsh the land becomes with bitter winters.   Living in this environment is part of being Scottish, showing all the resilience which saw off the English invaders years ago.

The capital Edinburgh is a thriving university town where Prince William hid out for a few years.   The buildings are magnificent and the annual festival is the best in the world and continues to grow each year.
