One of the founders of the
European Union, Luxembourg’s tiny size has been
no barrier to its prosperity and quality of life. The
country’s steel production pushed it to the forefront
of European economies, although when the industry went
into decline, it quickly developed as a well-oiled financial
centre.
Its French and German influences are quite apparent,
with French spoken in government and sauerkraut on the
menu. Even if you can’t speak either of these,
most of the locals speak English so you can get by easily.
Since you can travel to most parts of the country quickly,
this place is well worth a couple of days in your
travels.
