Lithuania's claim to fame is that the French identified it as the centre of Europe in 1989. The capital, Vilnius, was one of the biggest cities in eastern Europe in the 16 th century. Thankfully recent development has not removed the city's charm, with winding cobblestone streets which take you back in time.
It's stand against Russia to gain independence in the 90s has seen it go through some troubled times to finally now start its own economic development.
