Faroe Islands

© Faroe Islands Tourist Board

The Faroes are made up of 18 separate islands. The varied headlands make the islands a hikers paradise, and keen ornithologists will enjoy the wildlife too. Being a set of islands, most produce is imported which means it can be quite expensive, so be prepared to pay high prices for almost everything. Travel to the Faroes during the summer if possible, when the weather is warmest and the vegetation is at its peak. At this time there are also a few festivals, the biggest of which is Ólavsoka in late July. There are beautiful sunsets at this time of year: because of it’s northern location the sun sets and then almost instantly rises again!
