The Canary Islands are made
up of 7 larger islands (Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Gomera,
Hierro, Lanzarote, La Palma & Tenerife) and a few
smaller ones situated just off the coast of Morocco.
While it has gained a reputation as a tacky package
tour retreat with forests of apartment blocks, it’s
possible to find traditional fishing villages and secluded
beaches away from the holidaying masses.
The volcanic origins of the islands provide an intriguing
landscape of contrasting vegetation and terrain.
As you move up from the beaches, the dry scrub
gives way to alpine forests and snow-capped peaks.
